According to Cyberdialogue, more than 7 trillion e-mail messages will be sent this year here in the U.S. Here are some tips to make sure e-mail doesn’t keep you from getting your real work done:
1. Check your e-mail no more than twice a day. Set a specific time in the morning and late in the day when you read and respond to that day’s electronic messages.
2. Filter your spam. Spam is unsolicited advertising via e-mail. Instead of just deleting the message, find and use the option to request a stop to the spam.
3. Organize your addresses and messages. Rather than retyping e-mail addresses every time you send something, use your e-mail program’s address book. Also, file your e-mail messages into the appropriate folder as soon as possible.
4. Keep your messages short and sweet. There’s no need to write a 3 page response to a simple question. Brief is best.
