If you have someone on your staff who left only to return later, that person can help boost retention. When an employee talks to you about resigning, ask him or her to spend some time with the “boomerang” employee before making a final decision.

Listening to the veteran talk about his or her reasons for leaving and coming back may change the other employee’s mind.
